If you’ve ever met a Boston Terrier, you know they come with big personalities packed into compact, wiggly bodies. Our Boston Terrier, Baxter, is no exception. With his permanently grumpy little face and his goofy, loving nature, he’s not just a dog — he’s a full-fledged member of our family.
Baxter’s days are filled with adventure (and a fair bit of snoring). He loves nothing more than romping around with his dog friends — chasing, wrestling, and getting into just the right amount of trouble. But when playtime is over, Baxter’s favorite spot in the world is right between us in bed, where he snores loud enough to shake the walls. It’s part chainsaw, part old man with a sinus infection, and somehow completely endearing.
Despite his expressive, often serious-looking face, Baxter is one of the silliest dogs we know. He’s always down for a game of “chase the bird” whenever one dares to land in our backyard. Spoiler alert: he’s never caught one, but that doesn’t stop him from trying. His dedication is admirable.
Baxter is also a seasoned traveler, coming along with us on family vacations like the loyal sidekick he is. Whether it’s a weekend road trip or a longer getaway, he’s right there with us — a little dog with big vacation energy.
One thing we’ve come to accept is that Baxter has a very special talent for clearing a room with his gas. It’s powerful. It’s persistent. It’s Baxter.
He’s also wonderful with babies, gentle and curious, with a sweet temperament that always surprises people who’ve been fooled by that gruff little mug of his. And yes, my wife loves to dress him up — sweaters, raincoats, seasonal bandanas. Baxter… tolerates this. Barely. His dramatic sighs say it all.
At the end of the day, Baxter is more than just our pet. He’s our snuggly alarm clock, our bird-chasing backyard guardian, our living room comedian, and our constant companion. He’s part of the chaos, the comfort, and the joy in our home.
